Here’s a CD from Scott Ellison called “Ice Storm” that you should listen to.  Scott may not be a household name, but he sure has the credentials, and can certainly play.  This is a most pleasant surprise for the end of summer.  I mean a guy who can write, play, and has the blues.  Scott began touring in 1977 and by 1981 was asked to join “Gatemouth” Brown’s band.  Over the years he has shared the stage with Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, Bobby Blue Bland, and Buddy Guy.  As recently as this past January he opened for B.B. King at the Tulsa performing Arts Center.  Eric Clapton, and Freddie King were both based in Tulsa as Scott started his musical career.  He has played on quite a few television soundtracks and you HAVE heard his music.

So let’s get to it.  We’re talking about an even dozen tunes, all written by Scott.  This fine CD showcases his writing ability, outstanding playing, and knowledge of the blues.  I really like it.  He is way better than he ought to be.  Subtle licks, a guitar player for guitar players too.  I mean he was so smooth he played, and toured, with the Box Top, The Shirelles, The Drifters, Coasters, and even Gary “U.S.” Bonds in the 80’s.  Talk about some fine background.  Don’t let the classic Rock ‘n Roll fool you though, he’s got the blues.

My favorite cuts are the opener “Steamin’”,  “4th of July”, “I’m in Trouble,” and “Ice Storm.”  Every cut shows some real guitar work, and a fine band.  The “Ice Storm’ instrumental is where everyone just cuts loose.  Let’s look for this CD in the stores or go to www.earwigmusic.com, or just order from Order@bdcdisdtribution.com.  Yea, buddy, just good ole stuff.  Thanks Scott, you made the summer a lot more fun.   blue barry – knoxville, tn.
