Fresh off of his winning the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year and Best Contemporary Male Performer of 2006, Tab Benoit has a new live CD called “Night Train to Nashville.”  Actually it was made in Nashville just prior to the BMA Awards ceremony.  He’s backed up by Louisiana’s LeRoux and some mighty fine guests.  Kim Wilson on harp, and Jim Lauderdale, Johnny Sansone, Waylon Thibodeaux, and Jimmy Hall.  Not his usual band, but just killer additions.

I’ve got quite a few Tab Benoit CD’s, but this is the first live recording I believe. It is worth the wait too.  I mean these guys just unload.  “Night Train” opens up and jumps all over you.  “Darkness” is guitar lick city.  Hot blues, slow blues, ballads, and a Cajun “Fever For The Bayou”, it’s all there.  Kim Wilson blows some might fine harp as does Johnny.  Tab’s vocals are strong and the backup vocalists are great.  This is really good.  The more I listen to it the more I like it.  “Stackolina” and “Muddy Bottom Blues” fill the bill for whatever blues needs you have.  “Rendezvous For The Bayou” is just a joy to listen to.  This is a really strong CD.  I know Tab feels good about this one.  There are 11 cuts on the CD and nothing is weak.  Go get one.  It is just what the early summer is calling for.  Something new this spring that’s rocking and grooving, blue and cruisin’.  Great guitar work.  Quality recording, you can hear everyone.  Yea, it’s a keeper.  Thanks Tab.  Your friend............blue blarry
